Kursbeschreibung
Communicating what we do to people outside of our field can be challenging. This workshop aims to equip you with the tools and strategies to help you do so. It will enhance your ability to communicate with the general public and effectively explain the importance and implications of your research.
The workshop combines lectures, discussions, and, most importantly, hands-on practice. We will focus on ways to establish a dialogue between scientists and people who are not experts in the field (including decision-makers, family members, and colleagues from other disciplines). We will explore what research reveals about public knowledge, attitudes, and opinions on scientific topics and practice tailoring your message to engage the audience, build trust, and foster empathy.
We will work on refining your message (elevator pitch) and discussing how to use visualization to make scientific content more accessible, build the foundations to develop visual metaphors and explore how generative AI (GenAI) can assist in this process.
Learning targets:
This workshop aims to equip you with tools that will help you collaborate with researchers outside your field, expand your global impact, communication with funders, general audience, and policymakers and open doors to funding opportunities.
Target group:
Researchers from all disciplines, with or without prior experience in science communication.
Even experienced speakers can benefit from this workshop by learning new techniques to improve and achieve better results in communicating scientific messages, both in writing and orally.
