How can we create learning environments in which all students feel welcome and able to participate?

This interactive workshop explores how diversity shapes teaching and learning in higher education, with a particular focus on MINT (STEM) subjects. Participants will gain practical strategies for fostering inclusive learning while reflecting on the opportunities and challenges of teaching in scientific and technical disciplines.

As diversity in academia continues to grow, teaching increasingly involves engaging with students from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and experiences. The workshop introduces key concepts of diversity and inclusion, explores the lived experiences of different groups, and discusses how these perspectives can inform teaching practice.

Together, we will explore questions such as:

• How can I teach and communicate in a diversity-sensitive way?

• What common pitfalls can I avoid in written and face-to-face interactions?

• How do diversity and inclusion shape teaching in seminars, lectures, and laboratory

courses?

• How can we create more inclusive learning environments without compromising academic

standards?

The workshop combines concise theoretical input with practical examples, interactive exercises, reflection, and expert guidance. It provides an engaging space to exchange ideas, discuss concrete teaching situations, and develop practical strategies for inclusive teaching.

Né Fink is a trainer and advisor specializing in gender diversity and inclusion. They hold a Master's degree in Gender and Ethnicity, are a systemic counselor, and previously coordinated the project Support for Trans Students at the University of Göttingen. In addition, Né works as a volunteer counselor for trans and gender-diverse people and facilitates workshops and training sessions at universities and organizations across Germany and internationally.

Né creates an open, supportive, and learning-friendly environment where participants are encouraged to experiment, ask questions, exchange perspectives, and view mistakes as opportunities for learning. Drawing on theoretical knowledge, practical experience, and close connections with diverse communities, Né combines evidence-based approaches with real-world insights to create engaging and practice-oriented workshops.
