Kursbeschreibung
Research often benefits from the involvement of people without a formal scientific education. This so-called citizen science approach permits to provide data on a large scale and make use of alternative knowledge sources. Further, the participating citizen scientists can experience how science works (scientific literacy), and take on the empowering role of knowledge creators. Developing, conducting and coordinating citizen science studies also presents some challenges, often related to aspects of science communication and data quality. This workshop will (i) place citizen science into a framework with other approaches employed to make sciences more accessible, (ii) cover benefits, hopes and challenges associated with this collaborative research practise, (iii) invite the participants to reflect on their role as researchers in a societal context, (iv) present citizen science platforms, tools and resources, and (v) explore how workshop participants could open up their research for public collaboration.
Learning targets:
Participants will ...
- learn about different approaches to open up sciences and about theory and practise of citizen science.
- reflect on their role as researchers at the inferface of science, society and education.
- get to know citizen science and open science platforms and tools,
- brainstorm a roadmap on how to involve people in their actual or future research project.
Target group:
