This event is aimed at doctoral candidates of all faculties.
Two-Day-Seminar:
Monday, March 2, 2026: Watch Input-Video via openOLAT and do exercises at your leisure.
Thursday, March 19, 2026 morning and afternoon time slots for Q&A and editing feedback on turned-in texts via Zoom
Participants will be asked to:
Email a page from their current or past work after having watched the video
Provide a postal address to which the workbook can be posted to and their OpenOLAT access to be able to watch the video and do the exercises
Think about the key message of their planned article and a rough outline of their arguments.

Content:
The workshop addresses scholars and provides practical assistance in structuring academic publications. During the workshop we will discuss the place writing takes in research, how to deal with writer's block, address issues such as how to think about and develop a “storyline” and a “take home message” as well as how to organize an article’s key elements and which stylistic elements enhance the quality of a paper.
You will be familiar with different strategies that can help you successfully approach and organize your writing.
You will know about the importance of and how to decide on your take home message.
You will know about the importance of and how to develop a strong storyline.
You will be familiar with different ways of convincingly arranging your arguments.
You will have a clear understanding of stylistic elements that upgrade the quality of your writing.
You will receive editing feedback on your writing from the group and Dr. Crow during the live-online session on March 19, 2026

Registration:
Our courses are avilable via the booking portal of Kiel University's Continuing Professional Development Center. You will find them listed under the category Exclusively for Doctoral Researchers. Courses within this category are part of the Graduate Center's qualification program. They are free of charge for doctoral researchers who are registered with the Graduate Center. To get access to these courses you must be register with the Graduate Center, here.
Registrations are welcome until 15 February 2026. We will then determine whether the minimum number of 10 participants has been reached. Should the minimum number of participants not have been reached, the event will not take place due to financial reasons. Once the minimum number of participants has been reached, further registrations are possible until 8 days before the event begins.
