Most careers don’t follow a straight path but you can certainly better “steer your career”, whether within or outside academia, by developing an awareness of your profile (what skills and strengths do you bring, how and where do you want to work, under what conditions do you thrive etc.) and by learning how to present this concisely and convincingly. For internationals, it is often hard to know the workings of German academia and potential next steps on that track, so we will look at this as well as considering different strategies for identifying and prototyping alternative routes. This workshop offers assistance with your career planning and will encourage you to prepare for your future in a focused way by creating your own, personal action plan.

Learning targets:

The participants will...

• develop career-related self-knowledge (what do I bring and where do I want to go with that?).
• practise presenting their profile briefly and convincingly.
• gain valuable insights into the academic system in Germany and identify options available to them.
• identify their competencies and practise articulating these.
• make an individual action-plan to start implementing right away.

International postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines

• When you register as a mandatory participant, please note that attending the training is part of your official duties and an unexcused absence is a violation of your official responsibilities. Any further education undertaken during your working hours is subject to the prior approval of your manager.

• Fee: 500,00 €. Free for employees of CAU and PhD students who are registered within the Graduiertenzentrum.
