Kursbeschreibung
Navigating the demanding landscape of academia, postdoctoral researchers often confront intense pressures that can evoke feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. The competitive nature of science can intensify these feelings, also referred to as imposter syndrome, which can stifle personal wellbeing and impede career progression. Challenges often include:
- Self-Limited Career Progression: Doubting one’s qualifications compared to more experienced peers, resulting in lowered personal expectations and career goals.
- Perfectionism Leading to Procrastination: An internalized fear of failure that manifests in a need for perfection, often delaying important research and developments.
- Reluctance to Participate: A lack of self-assurance that leads to withholding valuable insights or hesitating to engage fully in collaborative opportunities.
- Overlooked Achievements: A tendency to underplay one’s successes due to fears of appearing boastful, impacting the recognition of one’s capabilities.
- Increased Personal Stress: High levels of stress and a decreased enjoyment in work, stemming from ongoing self-doubt.
- This workshop is designed specifically to help postdoctoral researchers cultivate a deep and enduring sense of inner confidence.
Learning targets:
Develop the internal toolkit necessary for thriving in the high-stakes environment of academic research, fostering a resilient and self-assured mindset essential for your postdoctoral journey. Specifically, the training will focus on:
- Enhancing Self-Awareness: Understanding your self-limiting beliefs and acknowledging your own strengths and growth points to foster a genuine self-confidence that is not solely reliant on external validation.
- Building Resilience: Developing grounded confidence to present and advocate for your ideas, responding to challenges and setbacks in an academic career with confidence and poise.
- Handling Feedback for Self-Growth: Learning to interpret and utilize feedback as a tool for personal and professional development, rather than a metric of worth.
- Expressing Authenticity: Clarity about your (research)passions, and harnessing effective communication and body language to convey your true self and research passions confidently.
Target group: Postdocs (all genders)
