Content:

Are you in the final stage of your doctorate? This course helps you to finally finish your thesis! The support provided by the course should help you to complete the writing phase of your dissertation before the end of the year.

It starts with a 2-day kick-off workshop in person, conveying the essential know-how for writing up a clear and well-structured thesis effectively and without suffering. Afterwards, participants work on their thesis, supported by three monthly online sessions that provide motivation, help with individual issues and (text-)feedback.

Learning objectives:

• organize the thesis-writing process effectively and approach the writing productively
• utilize peer support and peer feedback
• produce a clear and well-structured thesis

We provide two different locations on campus for writing meetings throughout the 3 month of the course - as a self-organized group and for individual writing:

• The Co-Working Room for doctoral researchers in the Central Library (LS9) of Kiel University
• The Time Desk rooms in the Graduate Center (LS3)

Our courses are avilable via the booking portal of Kiel University's Continuing Professional Development Center. You will find them listed under the category  Exclusively for Doctoral Researchers. Courses within this category are part of the Graduate Center's qualification program. They are free of charge for doctoral researchers who are registered with the Graduate Center. Registrations are welcome until August 23rd, 2026. We will then determine whether the minimum number of 10 participants has been reached. Should the minimum number of participants not have been reached, the event will not take place due to financial reasons. Once the minimum number of participants has been reached, further registrations are possible until 8 days before the event begins.
