Course description

With the increasing availability of AI tools such as ChatGPT and automated translation programs, universities are facing new challenges in the design of examination formats. In this workshop, participants will learn how to design exams that measure students' actual competencies while taking into account the influence of AI. Practice-oriented approaches will be developed to design exams that are both innovative and fair. The focus will be on developing alternative examination formats and critically examining their advantages and disadvantages.

Learning targets:

At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to...

• understand the basic principles of competence-oriented testing and their relevance for university teaching that promotes learning.
• analyze the effects of AI tools on traditional examination formats and reflect on their implications for the design of examinations.
• develop alternative, competence-oriented examination formats, such as reflection tasks, group work with process documentation and live or oral examinations.
• evaluate the opportunities and risks of integrating AI-supported tasks into examinations, taking ethical and didactic aspects into account.
• apply best practices and case studies from university teaching in order to transfer innovative examination strategies to their own teaching context.
